Salary:
PGY I $48,451
PGY II $50,149

Vacation Time:
All residents are off either Christmas or New Year's
PGY I 3 weeks + 1 week at Ohio ACEP Board Review Course
PGY II 3 weeks + 1 week of conference time (AAEM)
PGY III 3 weeks + 1 week of conference time (ACEP) + HAWAII OPTION.

Retirement Plan:
As an alternative to the standard social security tax deducted from the monthly salary, OSU employees participate in a pre-tax retirement plan in which a 10.5% salary deduction is matched at 10.5% by the University and directed towards a retirement plan of the resident's choosing. Residents are vested from their first day of employment depending on the retirement plan chosen. Residents, as employees of the state of Ohio, do not pay state tax. Based on past experience, most residents will leave with approximately $25,000 or more in their retirement plan upon completion of residency.

Recreation:
Faculty status gives you full access to Ohio State's extensive recreational facilities. Some of what's included: the Scarlet and Gray OSU golf courses where Jack Nicklaus practiced and competed. There are numerous workout facilities, pools, intramural sports facilities, including the new Recreation & Physical Activity Center (RPAC).

Medical Library/Computer Resources:
Every incoming resident is provided a new iPod Touch with drug reference and patient management software. The OSU Medical Campus is cutting edge. Radiology is computerized and always online, the medical charts and lab values are online. MD Consult, Up to Date, PubMed, etc. are always available.

Education and Travel Allowance:
The Department of Emergency Medicine provides a $1400 educational and travel allowance for the second and third years of residency.

Health Care:
Residents are eligible for subsidized health insurance, dental, and vision plans through one of four University-sponsored health insurance programs. Prepaid life insurance is available in the amount of two and one-half times the annual stipend as well as long-term disability with benefits of half the annual stipend for longer than ninety days. There is a minimum of six-weeks paid maternity leave provided on an as-needed basis.

Professional Memberships:
The Department of Emergency Medicine provides membership in ACEP, EMRA, AAEM, and SAEM. The OSU Wexner Medical Center provides residents with membership in the AMA.

Malpractice Insurance:
Malpractice insurance is provided for all educational activities at no cost.

Parking:
Residents are eligible for faculty parking passes and the associated fees are covered by the Residency program.

Dry Cleaning Services:
Dry cleaning is offered free of charge at the University Hospital.

Moonlighting:
Moonlighting is permitted by the State of Ohio after completing the Internship year and obtaining a permanent Ohio medical license and DEA number. All such activities must be approved by the Residency Director. In addition several internal moonlighting opportunities are available starting in the 2nd year. Second years who are in good standing with the program are offered shifts in our clinical decision unit as well as in the Emergency Department at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

OSU Athletics:
Residents have had access to purchase tickets for Buckeye football and basketball to some games.
