Notes:

Report the number of runs you make while riding with EMS to the program coordinator (Dr. Key).

PGY 1, rather than riding with CFD for 12 hours, an 8 hour ride and 2 hours at the Columbus Fire Alarm Office is proposed. An EMS orientation experience at CFD Station 1 will be presented during intern orientation.

PGY 2, pre-made EMS lectures will be available or the resident may create their own with approval of Dr. Key. Residents will be assigned months in which they must give a lecture. Bill Barks will provide each resident with opportunities to choose from during the month they are assigned to lecture. MedFlight protocols and test are no longer required but will be required PGY3 if the resident wants to fly with MedFlight. Ride alongs have been reduced from 12 to 8 hours.

PGY 3, SWAT TEMS HazMat or USAR no longer required but will be available as an option to interested residents.

An EMS 2 week or month long elective is available. During the elective month the resident would interact with Dr. David Keseg, MD, the medical director for Columbus Division of Fire, and participate in QI and run review. They would also have multiple EMS supervisor ride along opportunities.

Residents with a strong interest in EMS have the opportunity to act as Assistant Medical Director for one of the smaller EMS agencies that receive their medical direction from OSU faculty.

There is opportunity to give additional EMS lectures beyond the required lectures for which you can be paid.
