We are pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Terndrup, MD, FACEP, to the position of chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine. This appointment is effective July 1. Dr. Terndrup will become only the second chair of Ohio State's Department of Emergency Medicine, which is one of the oldest academic Emergency Medicine departments in the nation.
As chair of Emergency Medicine, Dr. Terndrup will be responsible for providing leadership and administration for the department. He will also ensure state-of-the-art clinical care of patients, quality programs for the education and training of health care professionals, and cutting-edge research and scholarship.
Dr. Terndrup comes to Ohio State from the Pennsylvania State University where he served as University Distinguished Professor, chair of Emergency Medicine and associate dean for Clinical Research for nearly eight years.
With more than 30 years of clinical, educational and research experience in emergency medical care, Dr. Terndrup has worked in various settings, including remote rural areas, suburban communities and large urban academic hospitals. He has held a number of emergency medicine leadership positions, including directing the Pediatric Emergency Department at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Syracuse. He also founded the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Center for Emerging Infections and Emergency Preparedness at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
His clinical interests are emergency medicine and simulation. His research interests are in resuscitation sciences, emergency services and disaster medicine. While at Penn State, Dr. Terndrup has received over $15 million in research funding, including a $2.5-million federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to create a coalition of central Pennsylvania hospitals to enhance surge capacity in the event of a significant public health incident. Dr. Terndrup serves on the editorial board of The Western Journal of Emergency Medicine and The Scientific World Journal. He has published more than 90 manuscripts, published more than 20 other pieces, written 25 books and book chapters and delivered nearly 150 scientific lectures at national and international meetings.
Dr. Terndrup received his medical degree from Penn State University, followed by three years as a Public Health Service Officer in the National Health Services Corps, completed a residency in emergency medicine at the Columbia University Affiliated Hospitals Residency in EM, then a pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at SUNY Health Science Center. He was a visiting scientist in Physiology at Dartmouth College of Medicine studying respiratory control during fictive seizures. He is certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine's Association of Academic Chairs.

Dr. Moseley created and implemented the After Hours Clinic at Martha Morehouse. Opened in October, 2012, the Clinic came together after a year of planning, development and marketing, led by Dr. Moseley. The After Hours Clinic provides access via evening and weekend hours to folks who may not have otherwise had access to medical care. It has already proven to be cost-effective in delivering treatment. For this accomplishment, Dr. Moseley is certainly well-deserving of the 2013 Innovation Excellence Award.
